Gimlet with Basil

A most refreshing and nutritious drink, lots of vitamin C! The addition of basil adds a wonderful aroma and delicate flavor to this tart sweet drink.

Lime gimlets

Gimlet with Basil

2.5 oz of gin (I used Plymouth one time and 209 the other)
.5 oz of simple syrup*
.75 oz of fresh lime juice
a stalk of basil (5-9 leaves), plus a few pretty ones for garnish
ice
a cocktail shaker
a cocktail glass

Add the basil, stem and all, to the cocktail shaker, add the ice and the liquids. Shake until the shaker is too cold to hold and you can swipe your finger through the rime of ice that forms on the outside of the shaker.

Strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with the pretty basil leaves.

Note: Simple syrup is simple!
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Bring to a boil and simmer until the liquid is clear and all of the sugar has dissolved. Let cool and pour into a jar or bottle and keep in the fridge. It’s useful for so many cocktails and in iced tea, if you like sweet tea that is.
